Wesley Church Member, James “Tom” Anderson  of the legendary Ghost Army to be honored.

On Thursday, April 21st the Ghost Army Legacy Project joins the Modern Maturity Center in honoring James “Tom” Anderson.

Tom landed on the beach at Normandy on the second day of the D-Day invasion as a member of the prestigious 23rd Special Headquarters Troops.  This unit is known as the “Ghost Army.” The activities of these soldiers were kept classified for more than 50 years.  The Ghost Army used inflatable tanks, sound effects and illusion to fool the Germans on the battlefields of Europe.

President Biden signed legislation awarding a Congressional Gold Medal to members of the 23rd Special Headquarters Troops and the 3133rd Signal Service Company.  The Congressional Gold Medal is Congress’s utmost expression of national appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions by individuals or institutions.

Modern Maturity Center will host a ceremony on Thursday, April 21st at noon in the Longwood Dining Room.  All are invited to attend.

Tom will receive a letter of recognition from the President and Congressional leadership.
