Description of Committees

These are the leadership committees of the Church, with descriptions of their functions and some of the gifts needed to serve effectively on the committee:


Christian Education & Spiritual Formation

For more information, contact Joe Young, Director, Youth and Children’s Ministry

  • Includes Children’s and Adult Sunday school
  • Small groups
  • Training for teachers and small group leaders
  • Teacher “Thank You!” luncheons

Church Council (Larry Josefowski) – the overall governing committee

  • Sense of discernment
  • Spiritual formation 

Clothing Closet 

For more information, contact Mary Ann Dashiell  or Fred Ragains

Provides essential clothing to individuals and families in need at no cost, and to all others who would like to purchase affordable clothing.  Proceeds are used to support local missions in the greater Dover area.     

Ways to Help

  • Volunteer at the Clothing Closet as a bagger, sorter, or cashier (Monday, Friday, or Saturday mornings)

  • Donate clothing and small household items to the Clothing Closet

  • Welcoming people

  • Meal Train

  • Signage

  • Greeters

  • Participate in local events – Parades, Preschool Open House

  • Cards & notes as needed (“we miss you” “hope you are well”)

Family Life – Contact Jim and Sandi Thistlewood or Mardi Spangler)

Helps coordinate church and community events such as:

  • Easter Egg Hunt

  • Family Bowling or Game Nights

  • Church Picnic

  • Advent Dinner

  • Breakfast with Santa

  • Live Nativity

Finance (Jim Curtis)

  • Spiritual direction as to how we use our monies

  • Several sub committees including audit and budget

Missions (Jim Short and Carol Gambone

  • Offer opportunities to serve in the local community (Habitat House Builds, Community Meals, Rise Against Hunger)

  • Communicate mission news and projects within the church

  • Foster greater participation in hands-on mission projects

  • Support mission projects at the international, national, conference, district, and local levels

  • Involved with hands-on projects

Nominations & Lay Leadership (Larry Josefowski, Donna Josefowski, and Jim Thistlewood at

  • Discerning who God is calling to serve

  • Making contact with folks to invite them to serve

  • Bring together training and equipping event(s) for leaders and servants

Preschool Board (Anne Oliphant)

  • Oversees this ministry

Staff Parish Relations – SPRC (Jim Thistlewood)

  • Personnel Committee

Stewardship (Tom Welch)

  • Annual Campaign

  • Soliciting pledges

  • Stewardship of monies, prayer, time, talents

Trustees (Bernie Henry and Dan Cahall)

  • Work with availability of facilities

  • Spiritual stewardship

  • Gift of administration

  • Investments – made and how used

  • Some committee members may be non-Wesley members such as attorney, realtor, banker

Worship (Dan Zeman)
  • Ability to work with people of all ages

  • Interest in wide range of worship experience including music

  • Sensitivity both to what makes worship effective and ways people relate to God
