Clothing Closet

                                              For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore I command you, saying, “You shall open your hand wide to your brother,                          to your poor and your needy, in your land.” Deuteronomy 15:11

The Wesley Clothing Closet is open for Saturday sales on Saturday from 9 am to 12 noon.

All the safety protocols will be in effect.

                   We are accepting Spring/Summer.   We are in need of linens.

We cannot accept men’s sport coats or suits at this time. If you are in need of some, we will give them out for free.

We accept donations on Monday and Friday mornings between 9-11 am. We have people available to carry things down if you cannot.  Donations are also accepted on Saturday mornings from 10 am-12 pm. No one is able to help carry down on Saturdays.

Wesley United Methodist Clothing Closet provides FREE essential clothing to individuals and families in need, and to all others who desire to purchase affordable clothing, housewares and accessories at a very reasonable cost.

All of the funds received from purchases are donated to local ministries which help to feed and house people in need.  Annually, the ministry serves over 500 adults and 200 children.

History of Our Clothing Closet

The Wesley Church Clothing Closet first began serving those in need of clothing in the Dover area in 1970.  Several church members approached senior pastor Dr. Robert Whitlock to express the desire to reach out to those in the community who were in need of affordable clothing. So each Saturday morning, tables were set up in Fellowship Hall and the clothing was taken out of boxes and placed on the tables to be sold. The clothing was then put back into boxes and stored ’til the following week. Approximately 5 years later, in 1975, the Clothing Closet was born, and established in its present location, the basement of the Educational Building, where it is still operating over 45 years later!

For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.
